TENNESSEE
Electronic Network for Improving Schools
States, systems, and schools across America are expected to meet increasing demands for accountability (No Child Left Behind Act, 2001; SREB, 2000). Tennessee and its system of education is no exception.
Following the Tennessee General Assembly's enactment of the Education Improvement Act (EIA) in 1992, the State Board of Education adopted in 1994 a new accountability model intended to (1) improve student learning; (2) improve the instructional program; (3) increase school accountability through increased information, rewards, and sanctions; and (4) make state requirements more consistent with federal ones.
This site is part of a collaborative training, research, and evaluation project conducted by Edvantia, and the Office of Innovation, Improvement & Accountability at the Tennessee State Department of Education.
